How do I go incognito in Safari?
Most browsers have a private browsing or incognito mode to allow you to avoid clearing your browser cache but still start with a clean browsing history. Private or incognito mode can help to diagnose technical issues by bypassing any stored credentials or pages.
Safari for Desktop
In Safari this is called a Private Window. To open a Private Window in Safari:
- Go up to the File Menu
- Select New Private Window.
Safari for iOS / Mobile Devices
- Open Safari on your iPhone or iPod touch.
- Tap the Tabs button .
- Tap [number] Tabs to display the Tab Groups list.
- Tap the Private icon (hand) then tap Done.
To turn off private browsing on your iOS device:
- Open Safari on your iPhone or iPod touch.
- Tap the Tabs button.
- Tap Private to show the Tab Groups list.
- Tap [number] Tabs with the iphone icon then tap Done.
