Q. Why does EBSCO ask me to consent to its privacy and data policy before I connect?

I'm trying to connect to EBSCO and getting this message that won't go away.

In order to use EBSCO tools such as saved searches and folders, you must consent to EBSCO's Personal Data Retention and Usage policy. This is to comply with international data privacy guidelines.

The first time you log into EBSCO from off-campus through our OpenAthens service, a unique OpenAthens numeric identifier is passed to EBSCO. We do not send any personal information such as your name or email.

If you click Yes, you will be passed to EBSCO and a MyEBSCOhost account will be created based on that unique numeric identifier. My EBSCOhost personal accounts allow you to save search results to folders, download ebooks for up to 48 hours, save search strategies, and more.

You do not need to add any personal information to your My EBSCOhost personal account; the unique OpenAthens identifier is sufficient. You may add information such as your name and email if you wish.

If you click No, then you will see a pop up warning page that asks if you wish to delete your EBSCO account. Since you have not granted consent for EBSCO to retain your searches and items, a MyEBSCOhost account cannot be created for you. Click Delete my Account to continue anonymously. You will not be able to save searches or items.
