Some of our ebooks have a limited number of simultaneous users, just like a physical book can only be checked out by one person at a time.
Determining the Number of Users
In EBSCO ebooks, you can view the number of copies (number of simultaneous users) under the label "Available" or "Not Available."
In ProQuest Ebook Central, you can see the number of users at the top of the record under the label "Availability:"
What to Do If A Book is In Use?
You can wait until the current user returns or releases the e-book. This can take up to 1-2 days or even as long as 21 days, depending on the book's settings.
You can also try reading the book online without downloading it. You may be able to page through the book's table of contents and read, as well as print or download a limited number of pages. In some cases, even online reading may be blocked until the book is "returned" from checkout.
My whole class is using this book. Can we get more copies?
We can try! Contact us at reserves@uark.edu or ask your instructor to complete our Reserves Request Form and we can try to obtain better access for your class.
