Q. Can I place an article from the Harvard Business Review on reserve for my class?

Articles through Ebsco Business Source Complete: No

In May 2009, HBR released this use statement:

Harvard Business Review and Harvard Business Publishing Newsletter content on EBSCOhost is licensed for the private individual use of authorized EBSCOhost users. It is not intended for use as assigned course material in academic institutions nor as corporate learning or training materials in businesses. Academic licensees may not use this content in electronic reserves, electronic course packs, persistent linking from syllabi or by any other means of incorporating the content into course resources. Business licensees may not host this content on learning management systems or use persistent linking or other means to incorporate the content into learning management systems. Harvard Business Publishing will be pleased to grant permission to make this content available through such means. For rates and permission, contact permissions@harvardbusiness.org.

 

This contract greatly restricts linking to HBR articles on the Ebsco platform.

You may provide an article citation to your students; the students should be able to locate most HBR articles by searching Ebsco's Business Source Complete (see link below).

In addition to these restrictions, HBR has developed an HBR 500 list. This is a list of the most popular 500 articles from HBR and has requested that these be listed as "read-only" in Business Source Complete. The articles are available to read online but they can't be download or linked to. 

For these reasons, you may not find all HBR articles in OneSearch.  Search Ebsco Business Complete to locate articles published in HBR. 

Articles Scanned from our Print Copies of Harvard Business Review: Yes

The Libraries own HBR in print back to 1922.  You can request that we scan a PDF of selected articles to place on reserve for your class.
