Q. What do I do if the item I want is checked out?

The item record says the item is due on a future date. What should I do?

When the item says "Not Available" because it has been checked out by another user, you can request the item to place a hold on the item if you are not in a hurry, or you can request the item through Interlibrary Loan, so that we can borrow it from another library.

Look for the "Request on ILL" button on the catalog record to send your request to Interlibrary Loan. The button will take you to a login screen, and then complete most of the request form information for you.

Checked out item request

Note: the Libraries cannot borrow copies of current textbooks on Interlibrary Loan. Consider asking your instructor to place required textbooks on Course Reserve (see link below for more information).

New to ILLiad?

Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad or ILL) is a service that fast, convenient, and free to you. Most physical items will be delivered to the main service desk within 5 working days; articles and chapters delivered electronically can take just a few hours. See our help videos on using ILLiad for more information through the below links.

Library-Placed Recalls

Only library staff can recall items checked out to patrons. Library staff will recall items needed for course reserves and when Interlibrary Loan is unable to fulfill a request. On occasion, staff may exercise judgment and recall items to further the research and teaching needs at the University.
